SERVICES
The Alabama Adoption Coalition exists to provide a forum where adoption
professionals of licensed child-placing agencies in Alabama can come
together as a goal-oriented and united group to accomplish the following:
1. To promote, educate, and advocate adoption as a positive option;
2. To promote best practice adoption standards;
3. To monitor and provide information to our members and the general public
on all issues related to adoption; and
4. To influence and collaborate with the legislative process.
GOALS
Coalition goals include:
• Building membership to include all licensed child placing agencies;
• Providing an annual state-wide regional conference during November for
National Adoption Month;
• Influencing adoption legislation;
• Networking with other professionals to strengthen the Alabama Adoption
Code language.
There are several committees in which agency staff representatives
participate in order to achieve our goals:
Membership Committee Objectives are recruitment, membership compliance,
communication and correspondence with prospective members;
Legislative Committee: Objectives include keeping the coalition up to date
on legislation, making recommendations to the coalition for addressing the
legislative concerns, representing the coalition at state or federal
meetings, maintaining contact with the Alabama Legislature and Congress;
Conference/Education/Projects Committee Objectives include developing and
planning conferences, projects, meetings and educating others about
adoption; and
Standards/Practice Committee: Objectives include drafting minimum standards
(e.g., number of visits, types of visits, formats, etc., for adoption and
post placements).
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the Coalition is available to licensed child-placing agencies
in the State of Alabama. Membership dues are $50 per calendar year per
